A new year has begun and I don’t think it could have started any better than with these two beautiful, perfect little boys. I always marvel at twins. How one can grow two perfect little babies at once it just miraculous. I love seeing their different personalities, their bond and enjoying all the similarities and differences between them.

These boys were ‘technically’ deemed Fraternal (meaning they had two different amniotic sacs and placentas) but if the split happened early enough they could still be identical… I think they are. They look identical to me. What do you think?

I have been capturing newborns for the past 6years now and from the beginning I was drawn to a very simple image.  I shoot exclusively in this style. I love every little detail of every newborn I meet and I strive to capture each baby in a very timeless way.

When I had my second child (a daughter) I felt more prepared for it all. With my first child every thing felt so rushed, so crazy, so chaotic and overwhelming. Days and weeks went by so fast that it all blurred together in my memory. A second baby I felt was a chance to not only do it all again, but stop and cherish every moment just a little bit more. To hold them more because you know it doesn’t last long, to not wish the night time feedings away (most of the time) because you know you’ll miss them and the snuggles when they are gone. Your oldest child made you a mother, but second babies are special too:)

I remember being in my recovery room hours after delivering and taking a moment to unwrap and stare at my newborn son. I had held him so much already, but at the same time it was all new. I took in his face, memorizing every detail of it, I counted fingers and toes and felt his peach fuzz beneath my hands. I felt him stretch his legs out and kick my stomach and my brain instantly related that movement to ones he did just the day before when he was still in the womb.

My brain could and yet couldn’t comprehend that I had created this being…that he was mine. My heart, my world, my existence was now in my hands. I remember crying as the new feelings rushed over me…the miracle of it all.

Nine years later I feel so incredibly honored to have captured that same moment for this beautiful mama with her newborn son.

Your time in the hospital is a daze. It is a flurry of nurses, doctors, friends, family, emotions and sleep deprivation; but in that same flurry are moments like this. They deserve to be captured, preserved, and remembered in a way that a cell phone photo just might miss. This little boy was so sleepy it was comical. I couldn’t wait to see him again a few days later for his newborn session. He was just as sweet, snuggly and sleepy as ever and I fell in love with him so hard… (once you meet him you’ll fall in love too).

Your family is ever changing, growing and every time you blink your child seems bigger. I love capturing families because it somehow freezes a moment in time that we would soon lose in the fog of life and memory. I love your child’s toothless grin, the drool, the rolls that cover their wrists. I love your toddler’s attitude, sass and shyness all combined into one expression. I love capturing families, laughing, tickling and having fun. These are memories. Theses are moments you won’t forget. This is why I love photography.
